The superstitions and legends behind jewels

Jewels tell stories : the long traditions that hide behind a ring, a precious stone, a necklace, silver run through the history of many peoples. Sometimes they are myths and legends, but other times there is a superstition behind a jewel: it can be small popular beliefs or thrilling stories, as in the tales that accompany the curses around famous jewels that belonged to historical figures .

For Halloween we went in search of the most common superstitions regarding jewellery: read on.

Pearls bring tears

One of the best-known superstitions regarding jewels warns us against wearing pearls on the wedding day , because they would be a bad omen. Another legend suggests that pearls bring tears if they are purchased for themselves and that it is therefore better to receive them as a gift.

What is the origin of this superstition? We must dig into Japanese and Chinese culture to discover that in the past pearl divers could remain lost at sea and their women, who waited patiently for them at home, mourned their death: this is why today it is thought that pearls bring tears.

But we must not be frightened by this superstition, because other traditions instead tell us how the whiteness of pearls is a symbol of fertility : its rarity and purity evoke, in fact, the memory of the birth of Botticelli's Venus.

This is why giving a jewel with pearls to a woman is a tribute to her femininity: as in Dreams collection , pearls meet silver to adorn the face, wrist or décolleté of the recipient.

Jewels to ward off evil

In many cultures, there are amulets that ward off the evil eye and bad luck, which are often worn since childhood. Thus the horseshoe is a symbol that has a long history as a lucky charm: in the past he or she who found the shoe of a horse's hoof could consider himself lucky because he could resell the metal.

So we thought of a collection dedicated to this amulet: the Horseshoe line is an ideal gift for those thinking about their future, for a student who is approaching graduation or for a person who is preparing to start a new job.

Creepy jewels

If you don't fear superstitions at Halloween, then why not adorn yourself with jewels perfectly in keeping with this holiday? On the witches' night, choose a shivering look and make your outfit even more special by choosing a line of truly dark glamorous jewelry, like the Skull collection . Even on Halloween night, a piece of jewelery can make your style special and unique, without fear of superstitions!
